Ebun Sodipo is an artist based in London. Sodipo makes work for those who will come after: the Black trans people of the future. Her interdisciplinary practice narrates her construction of a Black trans-feminine self after slavery and colonialism. Through a process of fragmentation, collage, and fabulation, she devises softer, other-wise ways of imagining and speaking about the body, desire, archives, and the past.

Guided by black feminist study, with a methodology of collage and fabulation, her work locates and produces real and imaginable narratives of black trans women’s presence, embodiment, and interiority across the past, present, and future. In doing this, Sodipo fills in historical gaps to create moments of archival pleasure for black trans people. This work takes place across multiple spaces: galleries, festivals, theatre, digital, and print; in varied forms such as sound, performance, text, installation, video, and sculpture. Sodipo uses visual assemblage as a technique to delve into the artist's own formation of personal narrative, self-possession and the aestheticization of compositional materials, extending her long term fascination with images that pull, extend, transform and recontextualise notions of femininity, desire, and danger.

Sodipo earned a BA from Camberwell College of Art (2016). Solo exhibitions include ‘Nasty Girl (The Sharpest Girl in Town)’, V.O Curations, London (2023); ‘The Edge Sheen of a Cut’, VITRINE Gallery, Basel (2023); ‘I Found Venus and She Was Transsexual’, Goldsmiths CCA, London (2022); ‘To My Only Love, Yours Always in Body and Soul. a space arts’, a space arts, Southampton (2022).
