Residencies

The V.O Residency Programme hosts up to twelve residents annually, inviting emerging and underrepresented artists, curators and researchers to experiment and create new work in an open and supportive environment. Our residencies provide practitioners with studio space in central London, critical and practical support, and a platform through which to both develop their practice, as well as access useful resources and a broad network of individuals and organisations.

Open to practitioners in the first five years of their professional practice and with less than five solo exhibitions, V.O Artist Residencies take place quarterly, hosting two visual artists each session. Additionally, V.O hosts two residencies each year for a curator/researcher, or curator + artist duo. V.O aims to bring together diverse voices and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. The V.O Residency Programme is focused on promoting artistic exchange, socially-focused discourse and knowledge production.

Selected artists, curators, and researchers are provided with a comfortable studio space at V.O Studios Mayfair. Residents will have the opportunity to engage in critical and ongoing dialogue about their work with the V.O founders and programme curator, as well as two guest mentors per session, who are established artists, curators, writers, gallerists and other figures. During their time with us, residents are invited to take part in V.O Open Studios, a quarterly event that provides an occasion for artists to interact with other practitioners and audiences in London. We value openness and critical-engagement, and we aim to reflect this in our residency programme.

At the end of each session, residents will have the opportunity to present a solo exhibition at V.O Gallery, to present a project (performance, workshop, lecture, screening etc.) as part of V.O Projects, and to produce a publication related to the work they have developed while in residence.

2021 Residents: Motoko Ishibashi, Rhea Dillon, Reem Shadid, Gray Wielebinski, Josephine Baker, Michael and Chiyan Ho

2021 Mentors: Anthea Hamilton, Matt Williams, Margot Norton, Nicole Wolf
