Adriano Amaral (b. 1982) is a Brazilian artist that lives and works between the Netherlands and Brazil. Amaralʼs work serves as an examination of the nature of “things” in the world; their substance, value, materiality and mutability. Blurring the boundaries between object and space, composition and dispersion, painting and sculpture, Amaral creates site-specific installations, responding to the spatial and architectural elements of the exhibition space. His alchemical sculptural installations forge inhuman worlds from ordinary objects. Working with sporting equipment, soil, silicone, spirulina and an assortment of other materials, Amaral creates mutant assemblages in which the gallery space is transformed into a living environment.
Amaral holds a BA from Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (2006) and an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art (2014).
